Lagos, also known as Lagos City, is a sprawling metropolitan area located in southwestern Nigeria. With an estimated population of 21 million, it is the largest city in Nigeria and the most populous urban center on the African continent.
Until December 1991, Lagos served as the national capital of Nigeria before the government relocated the capital to Abuja in the country's central region.
The city boasts sandy beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, including popular spots like Elegushi Beach and Alha Beach. Lagos is also home to several private beach resorts such as Landmark Beach and Inagbe Grand Beach Resort.
On Wole Olateju Crescent, near the iconic Lekki Bridge, visitors can find companies offering boat tours, kayak rentals, and jet ski services.
Freedom Park, located in the heart of Lagos Island, is a historical and recreational site that was once Her Majesty's Broad Street Prison. Designed by architect Theo Lawson, the park stands as a testament to the city’s colonial past and serves to preserve Nigeria’s cultural heritage through its monuments and exhibits.
The Lekki Conservation Centre, often referred to as Lagos’ version of a zoo, features a protected area replicating diverse ecosystems, including rainforest, mangroves, and savannah. It is home to monkeys, birds, snakes, and crocodiles, as well as a small museum displaying stuffed animals. On Sundays, the center also hosts religious services.
